You can get information from the Chamber of Commerce on community features such as parks, schools and community organizations. You should also make your travel arrangements at this time. Make sure to build in some flexibility to your plans in case of delays. Keep all of your moving related receipts; many of these expenses are tax deductible. You can get an IRS change of address form (Form 8822) as well by calling (800) 829-1040 or visiting the IRS website at www.irs.gov website. You can download and print this form, as well as Form 3903, for moving-related deductions. Make sure all of your real estate or rental paperwork is in order for your new and old homes. Transfer your insurance to your new address. During your move, keep all of your medical and dental records in a safe place where you will have access to them - include prescription and vaccination records among these documents. All important documents like stock certificates and wills, as well as valuables with you personally rather than packed away in the van. Make sure these items are safe and readily accessible.
